Classes start in February!
The continued increase in standards for private security in California took a major step forward on July 1, 2004, with the implementation of AB 2880, the Private Security Officers Training Law.
Effective immediately, all new contract private security officers in California must undergo forty hours of initial training. Additionally, starting January 1, 2005, all contract private security officers in California must take eight hours of annual continuing education.
This new law gives California the most comprehensive training law for private security in the nation. Private security has always played an important role in protecting property and personal safety, and in a post 9/11 world, it plays an increasingly critical role in homeland defense.
There are over 200,000 licensed private security officers in California, far exceeding the number of sworn peace officers. And security jobs at all levels are growing at a rate of 6% a year.
